Keith Elisberg - Bio

Age: 42

State: New Jersey

Fire Department: Fort Lee

History:  I started racing my bike when I was younger. I stopped racing after a bad crash on a BMX jump. I knocked myself unconscious. I got back into it years later with mountain biking both downhill and cross country. I received a road bike to train on and entered the Staten Island Duathlon. I placed raced home found another multisport event, never got back on a mountain bike and have been addicted since then. After being an initial responder I established a team to race in memory of the 343 FDNY Firefighters that made the supreme sacrifice on 9/11. I race these days to push my body beyond what most people consider impossible. I will not be part of any negative statistic.

Current Goals: to maintain my current heathy lifestyle of training and eating. I try to avoid high saturate fat, salty and processed foods. I wanted to race successfully even if I don't make the podium. A long term goal is maintain and improve even further my lifestyle and match my resting heart rate with my age when I turn 45. My rest pulse is 48. BP 108/60 Cholesterol at 188 with HDLs at 58.

Michael Cronin - Bio

1) Age -   25

2) State (location)  Montgomery, NY

3) Fire Department - West Point, NY (United States Military Academy)

4) Why you race and how, when you got started - (I race because I was fat, disgusted with myself and wanted a new challenge other than lifting big weights all day. I was strong but not fit. I needed a life goal, a check off the bucket list if you will, I wanted to do an Ironman and earn an MDOT tattoo. This was in 2011, my first race was a local Sprint, the West Point Triathlon to be exact. It rained the whole time but no thunder! I next signed up for the World Fire and Police Games in NYC, this would be an Olympic Distance. Unfortunately, after months of training, a Hurricane caused it to be cancelled. But I Still trucked on to the next longer distance. My goal was to do a Sub 6 hour Half Iron distance race but I was 28 min over that but I still completed my first Half Ironman at Eagleman 70.3 in 2012 in 6:28.

5) Current goals - My goal is to do a sub 12 hour Ironman
sub 6 hour Half Ironman.

6) Podiums, PR's and Favorite races - (I did really enjoy Devilman Half Lite in NJ in 2012 with Brian Manners and Larry Durland, but I must say I will have more memories from Eagleman.

2013 Racing Schedule:
Devilman in Cumberland county NJ Half Lite Iron Distance May 2013
IM 70.3 Eagleman in Cambridge, MD June 2013
Rev3 Williamsburg Olympic in Williamsburg VA June 2013

Rachel Zambrano - Run to Hear 5k Race Report

I went out to do this race with one purpose.  To see how fast I could run 5k.

I chose this race based on its cause.  My father has been partially deaf his entire life, so this is close to my heart.  But these kids just amaze me.  I expect most teenagers to be sitting on the couch this summer and enjoying their freedom from school.  These kids are raising money to make a difference to other kids.  Their maturity and heart just amazed me.

The morning was warmer than I would have preferred, but the course was flat, winding a bit around a small lake in the Pflugerville, Texas area.  It's a popular area for triathlon and other running events, so I was pretty confident that it would be a good race.

I got up early, got my coffee and pop tart and headed out.  I was there early, and registered, and I got a chance to talk to some of the kids and adults behind the event.  They are really pretty amazing.  You can read about them here.  I passed a table that lets you adopt some ducks, and adopted a few.  See, they put your number on the bottom of the ducks, throw them in the water, and the first one to the finish line wins.  However, I'm not interested in winning.  What I am interested in is bringing two cute little duckies to my kids!

After registering, I went over, put on my running shoes and got ready to run.  We lined up at the starting line and Ready, Set, GO!!!  The course was flat, fast and beautiful, and all too soon, it was over.  My new 5k PR was set.

Official results were 20:07.  Third overall person, first overall female.  Pretty good race.  But sitting, talking with others after the race was so much fun.  What a great group of people!
